any of various pale or ashy mosses of the genus Sphagnum whose decomposed remains form peat 同义词:sphagnum moss, peat moss, bog moss,
Sphagnum is a genus of between 151 and 350 species of mosses, commonly called peat moss due to its prevalence in wet habitats where it contributes to the formation of peat bogs and mires. Sphagnum accumulations can store water, since both living and dead plants can hold large quantities of water inside their cells; plants may hold from 16-26 times as much water as their dry weight depending on the species.
